National Salt Awareness Week

Action on Salt

Salt Awareness week is an annual campaign run by the charity Action on Salt.

It aims to spotlight salt in food and the impact that eating too much can have on your health.

What is Salt?

Salt is a mineral composed mainly of Sodium Chloride (NaCl). High intake of Sodium is linked to several health conditions and regularly eating too much salt can lead to high blood pressure which is a major factor in heart attacks and stroke.

5 million adults in the UK have high blood pressure, but don’t know they’re living with it!

Recommended daily intake of talk in the UK is 6g, about 1tsp.

Salt Awareness Week aims to bring the spotlight on to salt, calling for the food industry to reduce the salt in our food well as encouraging the public to make small changes to their eating, cooking and purchasing habits.
