Around half the coffee we drink in the UK is served in a disposable cup. In fact, the UK is one of the worst in the world for disposable cup waste, we throw away 2.5 billion cups a year!
No Disposable Cup Day is a global initiative aimed at reducing single-use waste by encouraging people to ditch disposable cups for more sustainable alternatives. It raises awareness about the environmental impact of disposable coffee cups, which are often lined with plastic and not easily recyclable. On this day, individuals, businesses, and communities are encouraged to make small but meaningful changes that can significantly reduce plastic waste.
Get involved this year by bringing a re-usable coffee cup to your favourite cafe and at work. Many coffee shops even offer discounts to incentivise people to bring their own cup. This small change will make a huge difference.
